OBI Foundation for Bioesthetic Dentistry® offers different training programs for dental professionals who would like to practice Bioesthetic Dentistry. The Core Curriculum of Biologic Diagnosis and Treatment was designed for dental practitioners, specialists and dental technicians and focuses on diagnosis and treatment using the Bioesthetic Principles. The focus of the Function and Morphology curriculum is on planning and production of Bioesthetic dental restorations that respect Bioesthetic Principles and create optimal biologic form.

CORE CURRICULUM

Core Curriculum of Biologic Diagnosis and Treatment

Completion of the core curriculum of Biologic Diagnosis and Treatment is an unparalleled educational experience for the dentist and/or lab technician who are interested in offering the highest level of comprehensive care possible to their patient and or client. No other continuing education program in dentistry requires the student to successfully complete two cases and to present their completed case upon graduation of the program. We pride ourselves on being the only occlusion-based teaching institution that offers a 4 to 1 student-to-faculty ratio with true hands-on education.  Our educational experience also includes the magic of mentorship. Each student is guided by an experienced, caring faculty member through the completion of their chosen case.

Students who graduate from the OBI curriculum have the knowledge and tools they require to successfully diagnose and treat all types of complex dental challenges with confidence. OBI’s core curriculum is split into four levels; please view each of the levels below for more information and to register.

» LEVEL I Fundamentals of Bioesthetics™
CORE CURRICULUM

Level I: Fundamentals of Bioesthetics™ from Dr Michael Q Edwards, UNION MO
Michael Q Edwards DMD, a graduate of the Advanced Bioesthetic Rejuvenation program with OBI Foundation is offering his Level I presentation lecture to explain and explore Bioesthetics™.  This two hour introductory presentation discusses the 3 basic principles of Bioesthetics™, The Optimal Biologic Model and The Human Chewing System and introduces attendees to Occlusion and Minimally Invasive complete Care Dentistry.  Focussing on diagnosis, treatment planning and implementation, Dr. Edwards will be facilitating small groups at his clinical office in Union, MO.  Each event is purposefully limited to 4 attendees to create an intimate, safe space for discussion - this is your opportunity!  No  prior skill, knowledge or experience is required.   Dr Michael Edwards has no relevant financial relationships to disclose.    Select the date that meets your needs and come discover the benefits of Bioesthetics™ to you, your office team and your clients.

» LEVEL II Bioesthetic Diagnosis
CORE CURRICULUM

Level II: Bioesthetic Diagnosis (BD - 3 sessions)
Assignment includes the doctor taking a patient through orthotic therapy using a Bioesthetic MAGO to stabilize the condyles. This lecture and participation course requires no prior skill, knowledge or experience.   Doctors will learn about the OBI biologic diagnostic process, have a better understanding of occlusion, including the diagnosis and management of airway challenges. Each student will also complete preliminary photography assignment for BD S1.

The key aspects are:

  • Orthotic therapy using a MAGO (maxillary anterior guided orthotic)
  • The concept of occlusion and how the mouth works
  • Diagnosis and management of airway challenges
  • Waxing of biological tooth forms

» LEVEL III Bioesthetic Treatment
CORE CURRICULUM

Level III: Bioesthetic Treatment (BT - 6 sessions)

The pre-requisite for Level III, OBI Bioesthetic Treatment course registration and participation is completion of OBI Bioesthetic Diagnosis Level II course.  Through this core curriculum lecture and participation program a doctor or lab technician can develop confidence in the Bioesthetic diagnostic process and have a better understanding of what conservative treatment options are available for their patients. The doctor will also complete photography and deliver power point presentations during each session showing each assigned stage of treatment. There is specific instruction in optimal biologic tooth form and waxing to achieve an accurate diagnosis, an ideal treatment plan and a predictable treatment outcome. Each participant will receive practice management coaching in how best to incorporate Bioesthetic education and treatment into their existing practices. Assignment includes completion of a minimally invasive case on a patient from the doctor’s own practice.

The key aspects are:

  • The Bioesthetic Diagnostic Process 
  • Development of an ideal treatment plan
  • Conservative treatment options
  • Creation of the optimal biologic tooth form and a biologic wax-up
  • Practice/laboratory management and marketing

Students will complete a photography assignment during each session, perform hands-on exercises and receive specific instruction in diagnosis, treatment planning and waxing. Practice/Laboratory management coaching is also included and each student is assigned a mentor. Upon graduation, each student will have completed a minimally invasive case on a patient from their own office or laboratory.

» LEVEL IV Advanced Bioesthetic Rejuvenation
CORE CURRICULUM

Level IV: Advanced Bioesthetic Rejuvenation  (ABR - 9 sessions)
This advanced curriculum guides a dentist and laboratory technician through the diagnostic process and treatment of a severely worn dentition. Doctors and Lab techs are required to have graduated OBI Bioesthetic Treatment (Level III) which is a pre-requisite for the Level IV Advanced curriculum.   The doctor and technician will ,with lectures and participation, build upon the core curriculum and learn about aspects of interdisciplinary diagnosis, treatment protocol, treatment outcome and case management. Assignment includes completion of a full mouth rejuvenation on a patient from the doctor’s own practice. Upon completion of the Advanced curriculum each graduate will be awarded the OBI Foundation Bioesthetic Pin and also receive an Academy of Bioesthetic Dentistry pin and one year complimentary membership into the Academy. Session 9 is completed within 12 months of completion date of ABR Session 8 and graduation. All graduates as well as Academy members are encouraged to attend and bring cases for review and follow up. There are also updates presented on new minimally invasive techniques, practice management and product information to keep our graduates up to date on the latest in Bioesthetics™.

The key aspects are:

  • Diagnosis and treatment in patients with a severely worn dentition
  • Aspects of interdisciplinary diagnosis, treatment protocol, and case management
  • Transfer of a biologic wax-up into the mouth
  • Minimally invasive full-mouth rejuvenation using composite/crowns

Upon graduation, each student will have completed a full-mouth rejuvenation on a patient from their own office or laboratory.

Lab Curriculum: The Biological Model – Function of the Stomatognathic System

Any change of tooth morphology through processes of wear, the placement of direct or indirect restorations, or orthodontic treatment may cause a dysfunctional change in the masticatory system. During the curriculum Function and Morphology, dental technicians and dentists learn how to achieve or re-establish natural dental relationships using a functional wax-up. Pre-requisite for those wanting to start their Bioesthetics® continuing education with Function and Morphology Part 1 is the Level II Bioesthetic Diagnosis Course.   

The Morphology curriculum is divided into two parts.

MORPHOLOGY Part 2

"It is an unprecedented opportunity to learn the rules of design and personally touch every aspect of the process of creating the correct bite, and thus understand the legitimacy of the position of each cusp and groove of a given tooth and their relationship with the remaining teeth in the both arches, because during classes both individual teeth and full-arch designs are waxed. Nowhere else and I have attended many training courses have I not learned so much about dental morphology as here. Now I have this knowledge in my head when doing full rebuilds because a huge part of this learning is hands-on and homework. PART 1: Fundamentals of Function and Morphology: Session 1 - 3
This course covers the basic principles of anatomy, morphology, function and dental relationships.  This lecture and participation course has a pre-requisite of the Level II course (Bioesthetic Diagnosis) for registration by Doctors or Lab Technicians.

The key aspects are:

  • Genetic morphology of anterior and posterior teeth
  • Anterior overjet and overbite
  • Angle Class I relationship
  • Determining the occlusal contacts
  • Proprioceptive cuspid guidance
  • Sequential wax-up
  • Determining the vertical dimension and occlusal levels
  • Wax-up reconstruction of a case with minimally invasive treatment

Theoretical and practical training is offered. Participants will receive training models to be completed in their own laboratory as part of the course series to deepen their understanding of the course content.

PART 2: Comprehensive Functional Morphing: Session 1 - 3
Completion of Function and Morphology Part 1 is a pre-requisite for registration and participation in Morphology Part 2.  This course is presented as a lecture and participation course for Doctors or Lab Technicians.  This course centers on the creation of complex treatment plans.

The key aspects are:

  • Morphing the posterior teeth
  • Angle Class II relationship
  • Determining the vertical dimension, occlusal levels and occlusal contacts
  • Sequential buccal guidance
  • Sequential wax-up
  • Complex wax-up

As in PART 1, theoretical and practical training is offered. Participants will receive training models to be completed in their own laboratory as part of the course series to deepen their understanding of the course content. Participation in course series Level I is a prerequisite for acceptance.

Daily: 8am to 5pm, with lunch provided
